Swiss-based u-blox (SIX:UBXN) is the global leader in wireless
and positioning semiconductors for the automotive, industrial and consumer markets.
u-blox solutions enable people, vehicles and machines to locate their exact position and

u-blox was founded in 1997 as a spin-off from Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and currently employs more than 800 people in 18
different countries in Europe, Asia and in the USA. At the headquarters in Thalwil near
Zurich, Switzerland, more than 190 employees are employed of whom almost 60% are working
in R&D. The Italian R&D centre in Sgonico (Trieste) employs about 120 people of whom
almost 95% are telecommunications engineers. We enable our customers to locate,
communicate with, and accelerate the design of their products.
Our main markets are:
- Industrial (fleet management, remote monitoring and control, remote displays,
point-of-sales etc.)
- Automotive (navigation, road pricing, emergency calls etc.)
- Consumer (smartphones and mobile internet devices, cameras, bike computers etc.)
u-blox runs a fabless business model. We have in-depth
knowledge of the complete production chain from chip design, hardware and software
development, verification and characterization up to supporting customers with their
integration in-house. Production is done by our partners which are the world’s leading
contract semiconductor fabrication and module assembly companies.
